Symetrical Garden Fountain

Symmetry is a technique used to keep the elements of a photo balanced and in harmony. This can help lead to a pleasing image and in this case, a pleasing garden.

The planners of this garden made one crucial mistake though.  The shadow from the hedge prevented the tulips from blooming on the right side, where on the left where the flowers receive more sunlight, they've bloomed already.

The image is still pleasing, however, due to another technique. Using lines and other shapes can lead the eye subconsciously around the photo, which helps make for a more interesting photo. -Brian
